Govee sells a permanent outdoor lighting system a homeowner can, in principle, install over a weekend. Plenty of people do. The ones who call us got up the ladder, looked at a long run of soffit with a gutter in the way and a corner that has to turn cleanly, and decided the weekend was worth more than that.

What you are paying for is the install
The hardware arrives in a box and is the same for everyone. Everything below is judgment about your house, in the order it gets made.
Measure before anything is opened
The kit length printed on the box and the length of your roofline are two different numbers. Every elevation gets measured first, then we decide what is lit and what is deliberately left dark, and only then how many runs there are and where they split.
Choose the seat, elevation by elevation
Soffit underside or fascia edge. The test is simple and it is not written on the packaging: from the street at night you should see the light, not the fixture, and from the driveway in daylight you should have to look for it.
Prepare the surface properly
Adhesive does not hold on chalked aluminum, on cobwebs, or on a soffit that is damp because it is November in Michigan. The seat is cleaned and dried. Where the surface will not hold on its own, the run is mechanically fastened instead of hoped over.
Set the spacing, then keep it
Even spacing is most of what separates an installed system from a decorated one. Corners, returns, dormer breaks and gable peaks are where a run either continues as one line or visibly falls apart, and they are planned before the first module goes down.
Route the cable out of the sight line
Cable is the tell. It runs where the eye does not go, gets fixed at intervals so wind cannot work it loose over a winter, and does not cross an elevation on its way to find power.
Terminate power on purpose
Which outlet, which elevation, how the controller is protected from weather, and what happens the first time someone flips the switch that outlet is on. Deciding this after the run is laid is how systems end up with a cord across a front porch.
Build the scenes with you, on site
Warm white for ordinary nights, plus the holidays you actually decorate for. Set once, standing in your driveway looking at the house, rather than left for you to work out from the app that evening.
Customer-supplied systems: how that works
Bring us the boxes. Before we agree to install a kit you already own, we check four things: whether the kit covers the measured run, whether the soffit or fascia will hold it, whether there is power where the run needs to end, and whether the roofline can be reached safely. If one of those is a no, you hear it before there is money on the table.
What we cannot do is stand behind hardware we did not supply the way its manufacturer does. If a module you bought fails in year two, that is a warranty conversation with Govee. What we will do is tell you plainly which side of that line a problem sits on, instead of leaving you to guess.
What a bad install looks like from the street
None of these are hardware faults. All of them are common, all of them are permanent-ish, and all of them are visible from the road at thirty miles an hour.
- Spacing that changes halfway along the elevation, so the line reads as two different lines.
- Modules seated at the wrong angle, so you see the diode as a bright point instead of the wash it is supposed to throw.
- Cable visible across the fascia, or worse, crossing the face of the house to reach an outlet.
- A run that simply stops at a corner because nobody planned the return, leaving a lit elevation next to a dark one.
- A controller zip-tied by the meter, in the weather, at eye level.
- Adhesive applied to a cold, dusty soffit in November, which holds beautifully until the first hard thaw.
The Michigan part the product page does not cover
Adhesive-mounted anything in a climate that crosses freezing and back all winter is a bet on surface preparation. It is not that adhesive cannot work here — it is that it fails where it was applied to a cold, damp or chalked surface, which is precisely the condition most people install in, because most people install in the fall. Where the surface allows it, mechanical fastening removes the variable entirely. Where it does not, prep is the job.

Govee installation, answered
- Will you install a Govee system I bought myself?
- Yes. That is a normal job for us. We check the kit against the measured run, the mounting surface, the power location and roof access first, and tell you before anything starts if one of them is a problem.
- Is Govee good enough for a Michigan winter?
- The failure point in this climate is almost never the module — it is how it was attached. A run seated on a properly prepared surface, mechanically fastened where the surface allows it, with cable fixed against wind and connections kept out of the meltwater path, is a different object from the same hardware stuck to a cold soffit in November.
- Can you install it on a two-storey house?
- Yes, and that is the case where hiring it out makes the most sense, because the second-storey line is the one you can see from the street and the one you would otherwise be climbing to.
- Do you supply the hardware, or only install it?
- Both are possible. Which makes more sense for your house is worth two minutes on the phone rather than a paragraph here, because it depends on what you have already bought.
- What if my roofline is longer than the kit I bought?
- That is common and it is one of the first things we measure. Sometimes the fix is more hardware, sometimes it is lighting fewer elevations well rather than all of them thinly. We will tell you which one your house wants.
